Rhodochrosite is a naturally-colored opaque gemstone. Its name refers to the Greek word for "rose-red". Colors may vary from soft pink to a warm peach. The beads may also have banding. It has only been on the market since the 1940s. The pink color of rhodochrosite is caused by the element manganese and it is formed when manganese is dissolved by ground water and drips off the ceiling of caves and crevices deep underground. It is found in Argentina, Peru, and Montana in the U.S.

I can assure you African Aventurine is a rare gemstone because I have tried to obtain more of it in different shapes and sizes but I cannot find it. I love this stone for its mica sparkles.
